Braided Rug.
2013.
This was a project that we worked on all year. We took old sheets and ripped them into strips. Then we braided them, twisted it around into a rug shape and sewed it on the bottom. I liked this project because it was something that we could do to get away from our other projects. Mine is more of a bowl shape, which probably made me get some points off but I still think it is cool how we can use something old to make something new.
"Family"
Mosaic.
April, 2013.
Above is the mosaic that I made. This project was not my favorite, but it was okay. I put the words family and love in red glass and I covered the rest in clear glass. Then I left a 4x6 place so I could put a picture there. I chose to grout this with white. It turned out okay, but while I was grouting some of the glass fell off and I didn't like it. I gave it as a gift to my mom for mother's day and I think she really liked it.
"Angie"
Wire Word.
January 2013.
I chose to do my name for my wire word. We bent wire into a word, but the tricky part was that all the letters had to connect. Then we chose a yarn and used a fancy knot to tie it around. Part of mine fell off in the middle of it, so I had to do that over and it made me mad. I am glad I learned how to do this because now I can use that knot to make all kinds of things. I used the knot in several other projects in textiles class, so it was a really good learning experience.
"Blue Cheetah"
Sewn Bag.
January, 2013.
This was the first sewing project we made it textiles class. I already knew how to sew, so it was really easy to do. I like the way it turned out with the different colors of cheetah print. I liked this project because I got to make something that I would actually use. I added handles and the buttons. The bag is the perfect size to carry all of school supplies in, especially notebooks and stuff. It wasn't really a learning experience for me, but if I didn't already know how to sew it probably would have been.
"Dreams"
Dream catcher.
May, 2013.
This was the last project I made in textiles class. It was probably also the most frustrating. One of my classmates, Cece, knew how to make dream catchers so as a project, she was going to teach our whole class how. We got metal hoops and wrapped yarn around it. I tied mine with the knot I learned from my wire word because I liked the way that looked better. Then we had to use the string to make the inside. I redid mine about 9 times because I kept messing it up. Eventually, I did it the right way and put on a bead at the end. I like the way it turned out and I like that it was a quick easy project.
"Crafty Cat"
Stitching.
May 2013.
This was a project I did close to the end of the year. We took canvas and put it in a stitching hoop. Then we painted it white. I decided I wanted to make a cat on mine because I love cats. I cut the cat shape out of fabric and glued it on. I then stitched around the edges of it. I added buttons for eyes and a nose, and then I stitched on whiskers and his mouth. I think the stitching and buttons make it look more crafty. I like the way it turned out and I am glad I got to learn how to do this type of a project.
